Western Sahara is the last African colonial state yet to achieve independence. Since a UN-sponsored ceasefire agreement in 1991, most of the territory has been under occupation by the Moroccan government. The UN mission in place is still deprived of any kind of human rights monitoring.

The ‘Time to Talk’ campaign was created for the Polisario Front and civil society groups to highlight the voices of Saharawi activists, leaders, journalists, filmmakers and artists ahead of UN-led peace talks on the situation in Western Sahara.
The Arrest of Nazha El Khalida
Video on Nazha El Khalida is a Sahrawi journalist and woman human rights defender and member of Equipe Media, a media outlet based in Western Sahara, documenting human rights violations committed by the Moroccan authorities against the Sahrawi people.
On 21 August 2016, she was arrested at Fem Lwad beach by the Gendarmerie Royale after recording a demonstration in support of Western Sahara's self-determination.
